The buzz about the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that later found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
